Not too long ago, someone posted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! S13 "drift missile" and they are asking 7k USD for it. Someone came on here and argued with me that this car is turn-key ready for drift events and the comments on the original thread seem to suggest that this car is a-okay for drift missile purposes. For those who don't know, "drift missile" is slang for a car designed to be smashed to death on a drift course. It will do very little else and is seen as disposable. I just have a few questions about this one in particular

1) Would you REALLY spend 7k on a supposedly "properly built" drift car that will just be smashed to smithereens?

2) Won't that "front end" just crumple and slash the tires after the most gentle of taps? I know steel is strong but physics says that those bars should be much more susceptible to bending than a full panel that can dissipate force better and they will bend directly into the front tires. Is that really how a "drift car" is built on the front end? I was under the impression you made an actual "chassis" with the tubes instead of making just mounting points for fiberglass

3) !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Which would you rather buy?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I have a feeling I know the answer to these already but for a late night bump and possibly some new information I figured I'd ask. I am not a drift expert but I am pretty good at finding good used cars and that S13 is NOT one of them IMO.

If you take everything that makes a drift car off that S13, it's as good as scrap. And I'm pretty sure those parts wouldn't cost 7k. Admittedly, the engine work looks nicely done (I'm no expert), but 7k is just silly IMO.

And damn you, I had a nice hour rule post lined up :C

Drift missiles might be a captive market. People who either don't see the value in buying a ready-made drift car, or don't see the value in buying something they could build themselves are of course going to balk at these prices. But too many of these things keep popping up around $7k-or-more for this to be a few craigslist dreamers.

I certainly wouldn't pay five figures for a beat up semi-legal S14. No one should IMHO, as there are countless other examples in not-shitty condition on the market. Be that as it may, drift missile prices continue to rise, which must mean market demand is tolerant of the inflated prices.

There's always the rich, unskilled type who want to look cool. My guess, they're the ones buying them

I personally liked that car, and want to eventually make one of a different model. But with a completed tube chassis, those bars leading to the tyres have no support

There's always the rich, unskilled type who want to *smash into a wall in the most expensive way possible.
